This privacy policy applies to the Tempo desktop app for macOS and Windows. The website privacy policy applies when you visit our website.
Local processing of work data
Tempo processes the project names, session and pause times, work duration and notes you enter, together with the state of running or interrupted sessions. Tempo also stores technically necessary preferences such as window position and size.
Tempo stores this data solely on your device in a local SQLite database or settings file. The data is used only for features you choose to use: time tracking, corrections, reviews, recovery of running sessions, exports and backups.
No transmission by Tempo
Tempo does not require an account and does not transmit your projects, sessions or notes to us or to a cloud service. The current app contains no advertising, user analytics, tracking technology, or automatic diagnostic or crash-data uploads. Tempo does not use your work data for profiling or automated decisions.
Store, purchase, update or optional diagnostic services provided by Apple, Microsoft or your operating system are separate from Tempo and are processed by the respective provider under its own responsibility.
Backups and exports
Tempo creates backups and CSV, Markdown or JSON exports only when you expressly choose to do so. You select the storage location and control the files' retention, sharing and deletion. If you save a file in a folder synchronized by another application, that application may upload the file to a cloud service. Tempo does not initiate that transfer.
Retention and deletion
Local app data remains on your device until you delete individual sessions or projects in Tempo or remove the local files using your operating system. Depending on the operating system and installation method, uninstalling the app may not automatically remove local application data.
Deletion in Tempo does not affect backups or exports created earlier. You must delete those files separately from their storage locations. Tempo performs logical deletion and does not guarantee forensic erasure from the storage medium.
Data security
Tempo relies on your operating system's access controls and security mechanisms. The app does not add encryption to its local SQLite database. People or software with access to your operating-system account, device, backups or exports may therefore be able to access the data. Protect your account and any sensitive export or backup files accordingly.
External privacy and support pages
When you open a privacy or support link in Tempo, your default browser loads the relevant page. Our hosting provider processes the server-log data required to provide it. Details are available in the website privacy policy. Tempo does not transmit your work data or local database with the request.
Support requests
If you voluntarily contact us by email, we process your email address, message content and technical message metadata to answer your request. Send us a Tempo database, backup or export only if it is necessary for a specific support case and you have reviewed the information it contains.
The legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR for contractual or pre-contractual enquiries and otherwise our legitimate interest in handling support requests under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. We delete the correspondence when it is no longer needed, unless statutory retention duties or legitimate reasons require longer storage.
Your controls and rights
We do not receive the work data stored solely on your device. We therefore cannot view, correct or delete it for you. In Tempo, you can view, edit, export and – where the app provides the relevant function – delete your data. You manage other local files through your operating system.
For data we actually receive, particularly through support requests, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability, subject to the applicable legal requirements. Where processing is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, you may object on grounds relating to your particular situation. You may also lodge a complaint with a data-protection supervisory authority.
Changes
We update this policy when Tempo's features or data processing change. The published version corresponding to the app version you use is the relevant version.
